Accomplished nursing executive will further the hospital’s position as a healthcare leader in Johnson County.

Kansas City, Mo. -- HCA Midwest Health System, Kansas City’s largest healthcare network, has named Kelly Reno, RN, BSN, MBA, NEA-BC, as chief nursing officer (CNO) of Menorah Medical Center.  Reno joins the leadership team of the award-winning, full-service, acute-care facility that is part of HCA Midwest.  Menorah Medical Center has a medical staff with 600 physicians covering the spectrum of specialties and offers compassionate care and advanced technology for patients. The Commission on Cancer accredits Midwest Cancer Care at Menorah Medical Center as a Comprehensive Community Cancer Program. Menorah was also awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award, one of only 82 programs nationwide to receive this recognition, and the only hospital or cancer program in the state of Kansas.

Reno comes to Menorah Medical Center as a nursing executive with 25 years of experience in practice and clinical excellence in a myriad of departments, including oncology, cardiology and trauma.  Most recently Reno served as CNO of a 190-bed acute-care hospital in Colorado where she was responsible for nursing, OT/PT, speech, RT, lab, pharmacy and case management.  Her oversight included quality, performance improvement and patient safety initiatives.  Reno also led a system initiative developing a CNO residency program, helped increase trauma level, added a wound care program and expanded a cath lab.  Reno’s efforts helped improve employee satisfaction for four consecutive years, and patient satisfaction went from 30 percent to an overall score of 75 percent.

“We are very fortunate and excited about the leadership Kelly will provide to our organization as we expand the services we provide to the community,” says Menorah Medical Center Chief Executive Officer and President Steven D. Wilkinson, FACHE.  “Her energy and passion for patient care has yielded superb clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction.  Kelly’s leadership in this area will help advance Menorah’s philosophy and mission of top-notch patient care.”

Reno obtained her bachelor of science in nursing degree from St. Mary of the Plains in Dodge City, Kansas, in 1987.  She attended Webster University and graduated with a master’s of business administration in 2004 and is board certified by the American Nurses Association as a nurse executive, advanced.

“I believe nursing is a hospital’s signature,” says Reno. “As a nurse leader, I feel it is my responsibility to ensure the profession of nursing is practiced in an exemplary manner so patients and physicians experience competent staff and ultimately, high quality patient care. I look forward to contributing to Menorah Medical Center’s future by providing the best patient care and services for the surrounding community.  Menorah is expanding to better meet the needs of patients and families with progressive and innovative programs.  I am excited to be a part of that.”

Mel Lagarde, president of HCA Midwest Health System, says Reno’s wealth of experience and commitment to excellent patient care emulates HCA Midwest’s mission.  “Our hospitals are dedicated to providing every patient with the highest level of care in an environment where people, compassion, community and integrity are valued,” says Lagarde.  “Kelly will help enhance what Menorah Medical Center offers to the community.”
